The wealth of a nation rests on the health of its children!
Impact Case
The problem:
From the Rhode Island Department of Health:
The solution:
“…the farm-to-school approach results in students eating more fruits and vegetables per day… making positive lifestyle changes as well as improving knowledge and attitudes about healthy eating and sustainable agriculture.” - From “Do Farm-to-School Programs Make a Difference?” Joshi, Azuma and Feenstra, 2008
We created the Ayers Foundation to promote, practice and teach sustainable agriculture, holistic nutrition and healthy living. We passionately believe that creating a real-world connection to local food and farming is the best way to re-connect each of us to our bodies and good health.
Investments Needed for Rhode Island Plan:
Capital Investments
Barn to house classroom, wood-fired bakery and farm kitchen - $500,000
Retail Outlet (Ayers Meeting House) - $50,000
Fit-out of kitchen and bakery $215,000
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total Capital $765.000
Annual Operating Investments
Education programs $107,000
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
These investments will grow the number of children served from 500 to 2,000 over three years. This includes education staff and counselors, student transportation, teaching supplies, evaluation and related support services.
*Kitchen will be large enough and equipped to produce fine goat and mozzarella cheeses, the proceeds from which will go 100% to supporting AYERS and its mission.
How you can help
