Organization and Guiding Philosophy

The AYERSfoundation (AYERS) is a 501(c)(3) with public charity status. Working closely with Hillandale and other affiliated farms and experts, AYERSfoundation functions as a working, educational farm and learning resource providing real-world experiences to it participants. The founders were very deliberate in the organizational and operating structure because they firmly believe that the most efficient way of proliferating local, fresh, and healthy (sustainable) food is through an inextricable link between doing and learning.

Guiding Philosophy:

Our guiding philosophy is both Jeffersonian and Rooseveltian in nature. AYERS' founders believe in transformative change by giving the people of America and other lands access to what is theirs by human and/or constitutional right and entrusting them to use it for the benefit of their fellow citizens. The right to good information, to unspoiled lands, to potable water, to a good and well-rounded education, to work and succeed at a labor of love, and so many more are at stake. Many of these basic freedoms are no longer readily available to Americans and other nationals, especially the less fortunate or underprivileged. Distributive justice has failed them due to bad politics, poor leadership, the absence of the Rule of Law, poor trade practices, deficient legal systems, corporatization, or simply the consequences of big business. Restoring social order will require going toe-to-toe with those who have participated in - and continue to do so - the process that has taken equality [in the broadest sense] away.

It is not the critic who counts...The credit belongs to the man (or woman) in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly...who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself (or herself) in a worthy cause; who at best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at worst, if he (or she) fails, at least fails while daring greatly.
— Theodore Roosevelt
